Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your charter

Charter prices range from $800 to $2,500 depending on the trip type, duration, and group size. Inshore bay trips start around $800 for a half day, while offshore shark fishing and tarpon charters run $1,200-$2,500 for full-day trips. All trips include tackle, bait, and fishing licenses.

Every charter includes all fishing tackle, bait, safety equipment, fishing licenses, and Captain Shawn's 30+ years of expertise. Just bring sunscreen, sunglasses, snacks, drinks, and a cooler for your catch. We fish aboard a 28' Robalo with twin 250 Suzukis.

Galveston is about 50 miles southeast of Houston, roughly a 1-hour drive via I-45 South. Our marina is easy to find and we'll send you the exact address and Captain Shawn's contact info 24 hours before your trip.

Galveston offers incredible variety year-round. Inshore, you'll target redfish, speckled trout, and flounder in Galveston Bay. Offshore, we chase sharks including blacktips, spinners, bonnetheads, and bulls. Tarpon season (June-September) brings the legendary Silver King. The species depend on the season and trip type.

Absolutely! Our charters are family-friendly and we welcome anglers of all ages. Inshore bay trips are especially popular with families and younger children. Captain Shawn is patient with beginners and will help kids bait hooks, cast, and reel in their catch.

Safety always comes first. We monitor weather conditions closely and will contact you if conditions are unsafe. If we need to cancel due to weather, we'll reschedule your trip at no additional charge. Light rain usually doesn't affect fishing, and sometimes overcast days produce the best catches.

You can book online through our availability calendar or call Captain Shawn directly at 832-758-7044. We recommend booking at least 1-2 weeks in advance, especially during peak summer months (June-September) when trips fill up fast.

Bring sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, a hat, non-slip shoes, snacks, drinks, and a cooler if you want to keep your catch. Wear clothes that can get wet and dirty. We recommend seasickness medication if you're prone to motion sickness, taken 30 minutes before departure.

No, you don't need to purchase a separate fishing license. Your fishing license is included with every charter booking as part of Captain Shawn's guide license. One less thing to worry about!

We offer three main trip types: inshore bay fishing for redfish, trout, and flounder; offshore shark fishing for blacktips, bulls, and hammerheads; and tarpon charters targeting the Silver King. Trips range from 4 to 8 hours depending on the type. Visit our trip pages to learn more about each experience.

Galveston Fishing Charter Guide

Your complete guide to fishing Galveston, Texas

Galveston, Texas sits at the crossroads of Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, making it one of the most productive fishing destinations on the entire Texas coast. Located just 50 miles south of Houston, Galveston offers year-round fishing access to both calm inshore bay waters and deep offshore Gulf waters -- all within a short boat ride from the marina. Captain Shawn Warren has spent over 30 years guiding anglers on these waters, and his knowledge of local tides, structure, and seasonal patterns gives every charter the best chance at a memorable catch.

Species You Can Catch

Galveston's diverse ecosystem supports an impressive range of game fish. The species available depend on the season, water temperature, and which trip type you choose:

  • Redfish, Speckled Trout & Flounder -- The "Texas inshore slam." These species thrive in Galveston Bay year-round and are the primary targets on our inshore bay fishing charters.
  • Sharks -- Blacktip, spinner, sharpnose, bonnethead, and bull sharks patrol the nearshore Gulf waters from June through October. Our Galveston shark fishing charters target these apex predators offshore.
  • Tarpon -- The legendary Silver King migrates through Galveston waters from June to September, offering world-class catch-and-release action on our tarpon fishing charters.
  • Sheepshead, Black Drum & More -- Winter and early spring bring excellent sheepshead and black drum fishing around jetties and structure in the bay.

When to Fish Galveston

Galveston fishing is a year-round activity, but each season brings different opportunities:

  • Spring (March-May) -- Redfish and speckled trout are active in the bay. Flounder start moving to the flats. Comfortable weather and lighter crowds make spring an ideal time for inshore charters.
  • Summer (June-September) -- Peak season for shark fishing and tarpon. Inshore action stays strong with trout and redfish. This is the busiest time -- book early.
  • Fall (October-November) -- The legendary flounder run begins as fish migrate to the Gulf. Trophy redfish and trout fishing peaks. Many anglers consider fall the best time to fish Galveston Bay.
  • Winter (December-February) -- Sheepshead and black drum fishing heats up around jetties and pilings. Cold fronts can trigger aggressive feeding. Fewer crowds and lower rates.

Whether you're a first-time angler or a seasoned saltwater veteran, Galveston has a fishing experience waiting for you. Captain Shawn will match you with the right trip for the season, your skill level, and the species you want to target. Read our fishing reports for the latest catches and conditions on Galveston Bay and the Gulf.
